Hamilton won today but can Murray?

Andy Murray will attempt to win his second Masters Series title today when he takes on France’s Gilles Simon in Madrid.

Can he replicate the winning form of Lewis Hamilton at todays Chinese Grand Prix?

Murry was on great form coming back from a set down to beat world number two Roger Federer 3-6 7-5 7-6 (8-6).

Murray, now ranked four in the world, has played Simon twice before with each winning a match.

Murray is attempting to win back-to-back Masters titles following his victory over Novak Djokovic in Cincinnati in August.

The question is can he do what Lewis did today and win? We will see later today but the signs are all good.

Andy Murray

Filed under: Tennis — Tennis @ 3:46 pm

All british Tennis hopes will lie with Andy Murray overcoming his disappointing early exit from the Beijing Olympics. Murray will need to rediscover the form that took him to success at the Cincinnati Masters. I believe the Olympics were a distraction which could have been avoided but hope that he will continue his improving form.

Tennis Time to move over Federer?

Filed under: Tennis — Tennis @ 3:44 pm

After losing to 16th seed Ivo Karlovic in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters the question must be asked - Is it time to move over Federer?

Tennis can only benifit from stiff competition for the number 1 slot and losing it can only help motivate Federer to improve his Tennis Game. He has had a good run of it and now could be his time to go.

There is now doubt his name sells Tennis Racquets and equipment and he has done very well out of this sponsorship.

Tennis is big business

Tennis has grown into a Big Business Sport. It hasn’t always been that way. Amateur participation in tennis seems to have peaked . In 1985 there were around 13 million tennis players playing on over 200 thousand courts. In 2002 the number of players had not quite doubled to over 23 thousand. Thats a huge audience to exploit for sponsors  using the media and the big events. Nearly all rackets now are branded and subject to sponsorship deals in one way or another. Wilson and all the major brands pay big money for their latest rackets to be seen in the hands of the current stars. You can view Wilson, Babalot, Yonnex and many more makers at Bestracquets where the latest racquets are offered for sale.

Laura Robson Tennis Star

What a fantastic Junior final that was! I must confess to knowing little of Miss Robson before the final but did know she  began Wimbledon as the world’s 36th-ranked junior player. I felt a little sorry for her opponent , 16-year-old third seed Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, of Thailand, who was ranked No 6 and had to suffer the huge weight of the crowd expectations for her to lose to our Laura. It has since been reported that following her victory, Robson has been slashed to odds of 6-1 to be crowned Wimbledon ladies’ champion before 2020. Now that is a weight of pressure she has now to learn to live with if she can. What I am interested in is that Laura has a racket deal with Wilson and one with adidas for clothing, I shall be watching the Wilson Pages of my website to see how she can manopolise on her new found fame.

I was pleased the BBC gave so much coverage to this match despite the criticism of some professionals. A great day for British Tennis.
